Kikashima

Fresh off the 2023 NPR Music Tiny Desk Contest On The Road Show, Kikashima is the band and moniker of Mexican-Japanese-Californian singer/songwriter, Carissa Matsushima. Now based in Philadelphia/NYC, Kikashima is a project rooted in legacy and truth, honoring mixed heritage and unapologetically carving out a home for difference to thrive. They are a sensual and thunderous rock trio whose heart-breaking, down-to-earth grooves move body and soul, thanks in no small part to Parker St. Charles (bass) and Max Azarmehr (drums). Dropping hints of funk, soul, and folk, their music is as multi-faceted and unique as Kikashima herself, whose gorgeous vocals range from the intimacy of a secret to the urgency of a roof-top proclamation, all in the name of beauty, grief, and the courage to feel everything.
